Angel Rivera, father of Christopher Otero-Rivera – the estranged husband of slain St. Cloud mother Nicole Montalvo,  has died in prison due to complications from COVID-19. Prison records confirm Angel Rivera is deceased as of Wednesday.

Rivera and his son, Christopher Otero-Rivera, were both sentenced to life in prison in July of 2021 after being convicted of second-degree murder in 2019 of Otero-Rivera’s estranged wife.

Montalvo’s remains were discovered in St. Cloud by law enforcement buried on properties owned by the Rivera family in 2019. The body was dismembered then burned, some to the point of charring.

The father and son were found guilty of second-degree murder, abuse of a body, and tampering with physical evidence in the death of 33-year-old Nicole Montalvo.

The judge sentenced the father and son to life in prison for second-degree murder and for the two other counts which brought sentences of 15 years and 5 years.
