After six years on the School Board in Osceola County, Ricky Booth stood outside the Historic Osceola County Courthouse on a beautiful breezy Tuesday afternoon where his great-grandfather was a County Commissioner and took the oath of office for the District 5 seat.
It is humbling to be elected to represent my neighbors. I believe in service and I believe there is a plan for all of us when we are called. I will do my best to guide our community toward a prosperous and healthy future over the next four years.
Booth is a 5th generation resident of Osceola County, who continues the tradition of his pioneer cattle ranching family. During his career in beef cattle production, he has twice been named Osceola County Cattlemen’s Leader and Rancher of the Year and has served as a cattle research advisor for the USDA and the University of Florida.
He served on the Board of Directors for the Osceola County Cattlemen’s Association, the Osceola County Farm Bureau, and the Silver Spurs Rodeo Club.
He received his Bachelor of Science Degree with Honors from the University of Florida in 2001.
His wife, Erika and his three children Nellie, Natalie, and Thomas participated in the ceremony. Among the numerous members of his family were his parents, longtime educators Tom and Martha Booth.
Three Osceola Board of County Commission seats were decided in this year’s election.
Commissioners Peggy Choudhry and Brandon Arrington were re-elected.
Choudhry is beginning her second term representing District 1.
Arrington’s re-election marks a rare milestone. It is the 4th time he will serve District 3 as a County Commissioner.
The Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to select a new chair and vice chair on December 7, 2020.
