The Black Empowerment & Community Council will hold its inaugural Vanguard Awards Luncheon, an event celebrating the outstanding achievements of Osceola County’s community leaders, on June 20 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the Marina Banquet Hall, located at 1104 Lakeshore Blvd in St. Cloud.

The Vanguard Awards Luncheon will honor individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to empowering and uplifting the Osceola County community in various sectors, including education, healthcare, economic development, public safety, and community service.

The event will feature keynote speaker Keith Gibson, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director/Research Champion for Florida at the Alzheimer’s Association. Honorees include Deloris McMillion of the NAACP Central Florida, who will receive the Lifetime Pinnacle Award. Other awards will recognize the efforts of various individuals in civic impact, public safety, economic impact, community impact, educational excellence, and community partnerships.

According to the Black Empowerment & Community Council, event awardees will include Andy King, Angela Eady, Judge Gabby Sanders Morencey, Leah West, Christina Morris, Desiree Matthews, Antranette Forbes, Jackie Murray, Belinda Johnson Cornett, LaVell Monger, Eric Pinellas, Abigail Ellis, Bridget Jackson, Jennifer Paul, Yokeenba Jenkins, Dr. Matthew Quainoo, Dr. Amanda Wilkerson, Dr. Sherika Dacres, Anthony Cook, Lance Gooden, Yazmin Alfonso, Justin Cloud, Jasmine Burney-Clark, Tanisha Nunn-Gary, and Rebecca Desir.

The ceremony will be emceed by Russell Drake, Founder & CEO of Black Build Daily with Dr. David Walker, Chairman of the Board at BECC, providing the welcome address, outlining the purpose and initiatives of the council. Yazmin Alfonso, Associate State Director of Outreach and Engagement at AARP Florida, will give an overview of BECC’s community initiatives and impact to date.

The Black Empowerment & Community Council is dedicated to advocating for and supporting the empowerment of the Black community in Osceola County through initiatives in education, health, economic development, public safety, social justice, and community engagement. The council’s mission is to create a vibrant, inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
