The City of Kissimmee has officially broken ground on the first hotel to be built at Kissimmee Gateway Airport, an exciting development that marks a major milestone for both the airport and the city. The new Hyatt Studios Hotel will be located on two acres in the Dyer-Thacker Commerce Park and is poised to strengthen Kissimmee’s role in aviation training, tourism, and economic development.

City officials, community leaders, and the Kissimmee Place Development Group (KPDG) gathered on July 8 to celebrate the launch of the 122-room hotel project, which is expected to create up to 300 construction jobs and between 60 and 100 permanent positions in hospitality and hotel operations.

Mayor Jackie Espinosa, joined by City officials and the Kissimmee Place Development Group (KPDG), spoke at the ceremony, sharing her enthusiasm for the project. “We welcome flight students from across the country and around the world, and this hotel will give them, and many others, a convenient place to stay right here at the airport and steps away from our vibrant Downtown area,” said Mayor Espinosa.

The Hyatt Studios Hotel is being developed through a public-private partnership between the City of Kissimmee and KPDG. It will serve aviation students, business travelers, and tourists, helping to further position Kissimmee as a hub for travel, training, and leisure. The project follows the City Commission’s approval of a First Right of Refusal agreement on November 19, 2024, and the finalization of a ground lease on May 20, 2025.

Juan R. Lopez, Managing Partner at KPDG, praised the collaboration with the City. “Hyatt Studios at Kissimmee Gateway Airport is a milestone for our community. It brings meaningful construction jobs today and permanent hospitality careers tomorrow. We’re proud to partner with the City to create something lasting for residents, visitors, and the local economy.”

The groundbreaking event also included remarks from City Manager Mike Steigerwald, Airport Director Shaun Germolus, and KPDG representative Santiago Fernandez. Florida State Senator Kristen Arrington issued a special proclamation recognizing the significance of the project for Central Florida.

Construction is expected to be completed by late 2026.

As Kissimmee continues to expand investment in its airport district, the Hyatt Studios Hotel stands as a key project in the city’s strategic efforts to boost long-term economic growth and provide modern, convenient amenities for visitors and residents alike.
