The Florida Highway Patrol is actively investigating a tragic hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a bicyclist early Sunday morning in Osceola County. The collision occurred just after midnight near the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road and Sun Cove Drive, near the Cypress Cove entrance.
According to troopers, an unidentified newer model black Honda Accord was traveling northbound in the inside lane of Pleasant Hill Road, while a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta was in the outside lane. The bicyclist was crossing the intersection from west to east and was in the center of the intersection when both vehicles—each having a green light—approached.
FHP reports that the Honda Accord struck the bicyclist, throwing him into the path of the Jetta. The Jetta’s driver swerved in an attempt to avoid the victim but was unable to avoid impact. The driver of the Accord did not stop and fled the scene, continuing northbound on Pleasant Hill Road.
The bicyclist, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Osceola County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to confirm the identity of the victim.
Witnesses described the hit-and-run vehicle as a relatively new black Honda Accord. FHP is urging anyone with information to call *FHP (*347) or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
Positively Osceola will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as they become available.
