TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Kyndall Brown, an agriculture teacher at Harmony Middle School in Osceola County, has been named Florida’s 2027 Teacher of the Year, earning the state’s highest honor for public school educators Thursday evening.
Brown, who was recently named Osceola County’s 2027 Teacher of the Year, was selected from five statewide finalists after advancing from a field of 74 district Teachers of the Year representing more than 170,000 public school teachers across Florida.
Moments after the announcement, Brown thanked the Osceola County community and reflected on the opportunity to represent educators across the state.
“I’m so incredibly honored to support and advocate for the teachers, educators and students across the state of Florida alongside the community of Osceola County,” Brown said. “I’m so excited to represent agricultural education, our students and Osceola County. Thank you, Osceola County, for making me who I am today.”
Joining Brown following the announcement, Osceola County School District Superintendent Dr. Mark Shanoff called the recognition a victory not only for Brown, but for educators throughout the district.
“Miss Brown is the best ambassador for the field of teaching,” Shanoff said. “There’s nobody who can represent Osceola County quite the way she can. She’s representing agriculture, she’s representing FFA, and she’s representing an industry that remains an anchor of our local economy. It’s really a victory for teachers across Osceola County, and we’re incredibly proud that she’ll be representing our community across the great State of Florida.”
Brown has earned statewide recognition for bringing innovation and real-world learning to agricultural education. At Harmony Middle School, she developed a rigorous agriscience curriculum for students in grades 6-8, reaching more than 200 students each year. She also founded the school’s Fishing Club and has built partnerships with local farms that provide students with hands-on agricultural experiences while strengthening ties between the classroom and the community.
Earlier this year, Florida Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas praised Brown’s impact on students.
“Kyndall Brown represents the best of Florida’s educators, making a lasting impact through her dedication to students and her contributions to school success,” Kamoutsas said.
Prior to the statewide announcement, Shanoff had also praised Brown’s work in the classroom.
“Kyndall Brown exemplifies the highest standards of teaching excellence, innovation and community engagement,” Shanoff said. “Her dedication to agricultural education has transformed learning experiences for students and strengthened the vital connections between our schools and the local community.”
Brown earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences from Mississippi State University and a Master of Business Administration from Louisiana State University Shreveport.
As Florida’s 2027 Teacher of the Year, Brown will serve for one year as the Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for Education, representing Florida’s teachers and the Florida Department of Education across the state.
