During Tuesday evening’s Kissimmee City Commission meeting, residents, business owners, and community stakeholders voiced their opinions on a proposed update to the city’s existing noise ordinance. The proposed changes prompted concern among several downtown business owners, who fear the updated regulations could negatively impact their operations.
One business owner spoke candidly during public comments, expressing that the proposed restrictions could severely affect his livelihood. The commission, led by Mayor Jackie Espinosa, took the feedback seriously.
Mayor Espinosa recommended delaying the final vote on the ordinance, listed as Item 4B on the agenda, for two weeks. She emphasized the importance of taking time to thoroughly consider how the changes might affect the approximately 12 businesses believed to be directly impacted by the ordinance changes.
“Our complete objective up here is to have successful businesses, that are following the rules,” Mayor Espinosa shared during the meeting. “My job up here as the Mayor of the city, is to make sure every one of you ( business owners and stakeholders) is successful, because your success represents the success of this city.”
Deputy City Manager Austin Blake, who presented the proposed updates during the meeting, indicated the city would use the additional time to reach out to those businesses, provide ordinance update information, and gather more input for the commission.
The commission unanimously supported the mayor’s recommendation, voting to defer the decision to a future meeting.
