A driver was arrested on Friday morning after rear-ending an SUV on I-4 then running away from the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Twenty-four-year-old Antonio Cole from Winter Haven was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on I-4 near Championsgate in Osceola County around 4:45 a.m Friday morning when he crashed into the back end of a 2014 Ford Escape SUV that was driving ahead of him in the same lane. 

The crash caused the Malibu to overturn multiple times, strike a fence, then land on its roof. The driver of  the SUV, a 42-year-old Lake Wales man, remained at the scene and later went to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, according to FHP. Cole, however ran away from the scene on foot.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was able to locate Cole by helicopter, then place him under arrest. He now faces charges of DUI and damage of property, leaving the scene of an accident with damage to property, and violation of probation.

He was also ticketed for careless driving and is being held at the Osceola County Jail without bond.
