A 4-year-old girl who had been reported missing was tragically discovered dead in the backyard pond of her family’s home in Kissimmee on Monday, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office was alerted about the missing girl around 7pm Monday night. The 4-year-old was last seen in the backyard with the family dog near a gated retention pond. Shortly after the child disappeared, the dog was seen swimming in the pond.

A search for the missing girl was done by helicopter, K-9 units, fire rescue crews, and the dive team from the Orlando Fire Department. Regrettably, the body of the girl was discovered submerged in the pond, according to deputies.

Law enforcement officials have determined that there were no indications of foul play in connection with this tragic incident. The sheriff’s office has characterized the death as a heartbreaking accident. The girl’s next of kin were notified.
