An early Wednesday morning wrong-way crash near Poinciana left one man dead and two injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash took place around 4:15 a.m. on Poinciana Boulevard near Terra Esmeralda Boulevard in Kissimmee.
According to FHP, a Mercedes-Benz E-Class was driving south in the northbound lane of Poinciana Boulevard while a Chevrolet Silverado was driving northbound on Poinciana Boulevard. The pickup attempted to avoid the crash by swerving out of the way, but unfortunately the Mercedes that was traveling in the wrong direction struck the back of the pickup then continued south in the northbound lane before crashing into the front of a Hyundai Kona that was also driving northbound.
The impact caused the Hyundai Kona to rotate and strike a Jeep Renegade that was also driving northbound on Poinciana Boulevard. Both vehicles both then traveled off the roadway, with thee Jeep ending up on its right side after overturning.
A 45-year-old Kissimmee woman who was driving the Hyundai , and a 61-year-old Kissimmee woman who was driving the Jeep, were both taken to HCA Florida in Kissimmee.
A 50-year-old Kissimmee man was driving the Silverado pickup, and was the first vehicle struck, was uninjured and remained on scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
