A significant milestone was reached this week at Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital as construction progresses on a transformative expansion designed to elevate patient care in the community. Marked by a ceremonial “topping out,” the hospital celebrated the placement of the final beam on its new two-story, 20,000-square-foot expansion that will house two state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratories and a brand-new 10-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The expansion, located on the northwest corner of the hospital campus, reflects a major investment in advanced cardiovascular and critical care services. The new facilities are expected to open in January 2026 and will provide patients with faster, more advanced treatments without needing to travel outside the community.

“We are thrilled to bring this needed expansion to our Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital campus as it allows us to continue to enhance our care capabilities and to provide, close to home, world class healthcare to this community that we so proudly serve,” said Brian Wetzel, president of Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital. “I look forward to seeing the great things we are able to do for our patients within this beautiful new space.”

As part of the development, the hospital’s helipad was relocated to the west side of the campus at 17th Street and Communication Way, and additional parking has been added to accommodate the hospital’s growing needs.

The second floor of the new expansion will house the ICU, replacing the current unit with modern, spacious rooms designed for the comfort and safety of the hospital’s most vulnerable patients. Critical care and pulmonology physicians will deliver expert, specialized care in a facility tailored for advanced treatment.

On the first floor, the cardiac catheterization labs will feature cutting-edge technology that reduces radiation exposure for patients and staff. These labs will allow cardiologists to diagnose and treat life-threatening conditions, such as heart attacks, with speed and precision. The procedure involves measuring heart pressure and blood flow and can be used to open blocked arteries—restoring circulation and preventing further damage.

This expansion is part of Orlando Health’s broader mission to improve health and quality of life across the region.
