The Osceola community is mourning the loss of Destinie Diaz, a 25-year-old Kissimmee woman and Osceola High School graduate, who tragically lost her life in a car accident on Interstate 4 in Orlando this week. Diaz was killed around 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1st after her Hyundai Elantra collided with a pickup truck near mile marker 72 in an active construction lane closure.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Diaz was traveling on Sand Lake Road when her car impacted the rear of the unoccupied pickup truck. The 25-year-old was partially ejected from her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A proud alumna of Osceola High School, Diaz was more than just a student. She was a well-loved athlete and athletic trainer, a great student, and a former homecoming queen. She loved Osceola High School, and the Kowboy family loved her back. Her dedication and spirit were felt by teachers, students, and teammates alike. According friends and leaders at Osceola High School, even after graduating, Diaz would often return to Osceola for games, keeping her connection to the school and the community she adored… once a Kowboy always a Kowboy.
Osceola High School alum and fellow athletes are still coming to grips with the loss of such a bright, spirited individual. One former classmate shared on social media how the news of Diaz’s passing struck the entire Osceola family deeply, uniting them once again in grief and remembrance.
A candlelight vigil in Diaz’s honor will be held at the Kissimmee Lakefront on Tuesday, October 8. Additionally, a memorial service will be held at Living Water Fellowship on Pleasant Hill Road on Saturday, October 19 at 11 a.m.
Rest in peace, Destinie. Your impact on Osceola High School and the lives of all those who knew you will not be forgotten.
