During Monday’s Osceola County commission meeting, James B. Kenney was named Osceola County’s Employee of the Month for March 2023.

Mr. Kenney has served as the Prison Rape Elimination Act Coordinator (PREA) for Osceola County Corrections for over nine years, and in that role he has been instrumental in the formulation and implementation of departmental policies and procedures designed to prevent and/or address incidents of sexual abuse and violence within the county’s correctional facility. In addition to being the County’s PREA Coordinator, James is also a PREA Auditor, and travels to jails throughout the Country to ensure PREA Standards are being followed.

If you know James Kenney, you know his passion for the community doesn’t stop as the County’s PREA Coordinator, he also serves as a co-chair on the Central Florida Human Trafficking Task Force, and helped organize and promote the second annual “Red Sand Project” in Osceola County, an event focused on increasing awareness of the tragic reality of human trafficking in and around Osceola County.

“Florida ranks 3rd in the United States for calls to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. The average age targeted online for individuals is 10-13, and it takes less than 17-minutes to entice a child to send an explicit photo to someone online. These are bad numbers, and a lot think about if you’re a parent,” Kenney said during a discussion on Positively Osceola LIVE in January.

James and his wife Kathy, are very active with the Osceola Chamber, along with numerous other advocacy-based organizations in Osceola County, and are awesome examples of what it means to step up and take the lead in improving the community you live, work, and play in.

From all of us at Positively Osceola, we thank James Kenney for making a positive difference in, and around Osceola County!
