KENANSVILLE, Fla. — In a world where everything seems to move faster every day, there’s one remarkable animal at Wild Florida Adventure Park that has mastered the art of slowing down — and visitors are invited to discover why.
The two-toed sloth is among the fascinating exotic animals guests can encounter while exploring Wild Florida’s Gator Park in Kenansville, offering families an opportunity to get a closer look at one of nature’s most unusual and recognizable creatures.
Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, two-toed sloths spend much of their lives hanging upside down in trees. Their long, curved claws allow them to grip branches securely, while their slow movements help conserve energy.
And while sloths may appear sleepy or lazy, their relaxed lifestyle is actually a remarkable survival adaptation.
Sloths have a relatively low metabolic rate, allowing them to survive on a diet consisting largely of leaves and other plant material. They’re also surprisingly capable swimmers, using their long arms to move through the water when necessary.
Another interesting fact? Despite their name, two-toed sloths actually have three toes on their hind feet. The name refers to the two digits on each of their front limbs.
At Wild Florida Adventure Park, visitors can discover these fascinating animals while exploring the Gator Park, home to more than 200 native and exotic animals.
For those hoping for an even closer experience, Wild Florida also offers special Sloth Encounters, giving eligible guests an opportunity to learn more about these remarkable animals alongside the park’s animal care team. Reservations and participation requirements apply.
And meeting a sloth can be just the beginning of an unforgettable day.
Families can take their own vehicle through Wild Florida’s 170-acre Drive-Thru Safari Park, where giraffes, zebras, bison, wildebeest and other exotic animals await along a four-mile adventure.
Visitors can also climb aboard a Wild Florida airboat and explore the Headwaters of the Florida Everglades, where alligators, birds and other native wildlife can be spotted throughout Central Florida’s natural wetlands.
From one of the world’s slowest-moving mammals to the excitement of an airboat adventure, Wild Florida brings together wildlife, education and outdoor fun in one destination.
