The St. Cloud Fire Rescue Department has bolstered its leadership team with the addition of a new Deputy Fire Chief of Professional Standards and a new Emergency Manager, roles designed to enhance incident response and strengthen resiliency for residents, businesses, and visitors in the City of St. Cloud.
Deputy Chief of Professional Standards Michael Capranica
Michael Capranica brings nearly three decades of fire service experience to the St. Cloud Fire Rescue Department. Starting his career in 1994 as a high school senior, Capranica most recently served as Deputy Fire Chief for Osceola County Fire Rescue. During his tenure, he was instrumental in responding to major emergencies, including the deadly tornado outbreak and devastating wildfires of 1998. As a founding member of Osceola County’s special operations team, he introduced advanced technical rescue capabilities such as extrication, vehicle and machinery rescue, ropes, and confined space rescue. In his new role, Capranica will oversee professional standards and logistics, ensuring the department operates with enhanced safety and cost efficiency.
Emergency Manager Nolan Ristau
Nolan Ristau joins the department as Emergency Manager, bringing extensive experience in emergency planning and disaster response. Formerly Mitigation Manager for Pasco County Emergency Management, Ristau has managed crises ranging from sinkholes to hurricanes. In his new role, he will ensure city staff maintain critical certifications, coordinate with County Emergency Management, and implement strategies to minimize loss of life and property damage. With a master’s degree in Emergency & Disaster Management, Ristau will focus on enhancing St. Cloud’s preparedness, whether for natural disasters or large-scale public events. His expertise will strengthen the city’s ability to respond effectively and recover quickly in the face of adversity.
