The Commissioner had purchased the meat from Chase Richards of the Silver Saddles 4-H club at the Fair, which supported the young man’s work of raising the hog, which weighed in at more than 270 pounds.

4-H members save the proceeds of the sale for college or for purchase of their first vehicle. Along they way, they learn care and sale of the animals — as well as marketing, business principles, and the responsibilities that come along with the journey.

“In contributing to KVLS, I have been able to support more than one individual or organization. Chase Richards, The young man who raised the hog through 4H is able to have funds to help further his education. The pork itself will help feed the women and children in the shelter of Help Now. I was fortunate to also contribute to the Transition House, another great nonprofit organization in Osceola County,” Osceola County Commissioner for District 4 said.

Buying a pig or a steer at the 4-H auction is a way for a local businesses and individuals support the program.

“I want to give a HUGE shout out of appreciation to Osceola County Commissioner Cheryl Grieb for providing the Help Now of Osceola shelter with a generous donation of meat locally grown and processed through the Osceola County Fair. Commissioner Grieb proudly supports the work we do for survivors of domestic violence here at Help Now and is a champion for so many. We’re truly grateful for her dedication and support! Many meals are sure to be enjoyed,” Executive director at Help Now of Osceola, Inc. shared.

The Osceola County Fair will be back February 11-20, 2022, but you don’t have to wait until then to enjoy delicious fair food, because this weekend, October 29-31, the Fall Food festival is back at Osceola Heritage Park and it will be even bigger and better than last year. From Cotton Candy, to sausages, funnel cakes, pizza, corn dogs, fried. Oreos and more, it’s sure to fill the fair food craving of the biggest of fair food enthusiasts.

The Fall Food Festival at Heritage Park will be fun more the entire family with carnival games and Trick or Treating and will take place Friday October 29 from 5-9pm, and on Saturday and Sunday October 30 and 31 from 11am-6pm.

With the honor comes a $1,500 scholarship and the opportunity to represent the Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show and Osceola County Fair for a year. She said it’s been a whirlwind already.

“It’s been a busy week at the Fair, but so far it’s been incredible,” Zavitz said Wednesday night. “Everyone’s been so welcoming, and so many people’s faces light up when they see the crown and the sash. I’m looking forward to finding as many volunteer opportunities.”

“I’ve already got my new boots, and I love them,” she said.

After singing “The Girl in 14G” by Jeanine Tesori and Dick Scanlan written for and best known being performed by Kristin Chenoweth, in the talent portion of Saturday’s competition, she was awarded the crown by 2019 Miss Osceola, Kylie Blakely. Zavitz, who will be 25 on Saturday, also earned the People’s Choice Award.

Madison’s Social Impact Initiative — Shine a Light Center Stage: Putting the Spotlight on the Performing Arts, gives students the opportunity to learn about all facets of theatre, music, and dance. Thanks to her performing background, her platform stresses the importance of including the arts in state funding.

The Miss Osceola Pageant is a preliminary pageant for the Miss Florida and Miss America pageants. Zavitz competed for Miss Florida last year as Miss Apopka, and Miss Swan City in 2018, and will compete in her third Miss Florida pageant in Lakeland in mid-June alongside her sister Kelty, Miss Pasco.

Zavitz has been singing and dancing across the stages of Central Florida since age three, including appearing at Osceola Arts. She performed internationally with the 30th Anniversary Broadway Tour of Annie for two years. She is a recent graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and specializations in Musical Theatre and Acting and Directing. She was selected as a 2017 Technical and Artistic intern with The House of Dancing Water in Macau, China, and now performs all over the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as a singer and dancer at Universal Studios.
Seritta Norige was named First Runner-Up last Saturday, and Lauren Karwoski was Second Runner Up.

That’s all great … come for that, but plan on staying for the amazing entertainment that KVLS has scheduled for their annual title event!

Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show GM Larry Barry shared an impressive lineup of acts with Positively Osceola’s own Jeff Gerstenlauer earlier this week.

“It’s already ramping up,” Barry said. “It’s the single-most attended event every year in Osceola County, so we want to put on an awesome community event.”

The theme this year is “Celebrate the Red, White and Blue“, and the list of performers is a mix of local acts and nationally-known entertainers, including one who fits both bills.

Mandy Harvey overcame losing her hearing to a nerve ailment at age 18 and then appeared on America’s Got Talent last year (she earned Simon’s “Golden Buzzer”).

The lineup also includes Tallahassee-based country-rock group Tobacco Road, Central Florida’s own folk rock band Slickwood and blues band Grimes Alley, the Margarita Boys and the magic of illusionists Noah and Heather Wells — Barry himself is a magician and said he had to “sneak them in there”.

A secondary stage will also hold attendees attention with a dog agility training exhibit, a dinosaur exhibit from Jurassic Kingdom, a chainsaw artist making creations from large wood blocks, and a butterfly exhibit.

“It’ll be a lot of firsts for the Fair,” Barry said.
