City of Kissimmee to Host Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Celebration on Saturday

The City of Kissimmee invites the community to its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Celebration on Saturday, January 11, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Kissimmee Lakefront Park Festival Lawn, located at 201 Lakeview Drive.

This free event provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to come together in celebration of the life, achievements, and lasting legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The gathering will highlight his contributions to civil rights and unity, offering a meaningful day of reflection and community connection.

The celebration will include live musical performances by Velvet Groove, and attendees will be able to engage with local artisans and businesses through various community vendors. A special KUA Kids Power Zone will provide youth-focused activities designed to promote fun and learning. A selection of food vendors will also be available throughout the event.

This year’s event is made possible through the support of Kissimmee Utility Authority, Toho Water Authority, NAACP Osceola County, the Black Empowerment & Community Council, and Star 94.5.

Free public parking will be available at the following locations:

Toho Square Parking Garage (92 Pleasant St.)
Kissimmee Intermodal Parking Garage (205 E. Dakin Ave.), adjacent to the Kissimmee Civic Center
ADA Parking will be located in the Toho Marina Overflow Lot (69 Lakeview Dr.)

La Ciudad de Kissimmee realizará su Celebración de la Unidad en honor a Martin Luther King Jr. el sábado, 11 de enero 2025, de 12:00 p.m. a 4:00 p.m. en Kissimmee Lakefront Park Festival Lawn, ubicado en 201 Lakeview Drive, Kissimmee, FL 34741. Este evento público y gratuito ofrece una oportunidad para que la comunidad se reúna y honre la vida y el legado perdurable de Martin Luther King Jr.

La celebración incluirá actuaciones musicales en vivo de Velvet Groove, y los asistentes podrán relacionarse con artesanos y empresas locales a través de diversos emprendedores de la comunidad. Embracing the Dream: Kissimmee Honors Martin Luther King Jr. with Unity Celebration

On Saturday, January 13th, the City of Kissimmee and the community will came together to pay homage to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a Unity Celebration at the scenic Kissimmee Lakefront Park. This vibrant event, hosted by the City of Kissimmee, and sponsored by Kissimmee Utility Authority and Toho Water Authority, created an opportunity for the community to embrace diversity and unity through a shared appreciation of culture, music, and engagement.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an iconic civil rights leader, championed the values of equality, love, and justice, inspiring countless individuals worldwide. His peaceful approach to combating racial segregation changed the course of history and led to the creation of Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday observed on the third Monday in January, close to his birthday on January 15th.

At Kissimmee’s Unity Celebration, the community experienced the soul-stirring music of the House of Blues Gospel Band and indulged in an array of culinary treats from a selection of food trucks. There was a plethora of unique crafts available to explore and purchase from local vendors, along with inspiring art, and once again, kiddos reveled in fun and learning at the KUA Kids Power Zone.

This event was more than just a celebration; it was a reflection of Dr. King’s vision for a community where everyone has a place, a dream, and a voice. It was about building the “Beloved Community” Dr. King envisioned—a society based on justice, equal opportunity, and love of one’s fellow human beings.

Kissimmee Utility Authority Offices Closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Kissimmee Utility Authority’s customer service center and administrative offices will be closed today, Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Customers wishing to make a bill payment can do so through the utility’s automated telephone system at 407-933-7777, online at kua.com or at any area Amscot Financial location.

KUA was a sponsor in support of Saturday’s Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Unity Celebration, hosted by the City of Kissimmee, and will also be sponsoring the 32nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet, hosted by Osceola Visionaries, Inc.
that takes place today, Monday, January 20 – 5 p.m. at the Kissimmee Civic Center, 201 E. Dakin Avenue in Kissimmee.
