John McAleenan took the oath of office after being appointed by the Kissimmee City Commission to replace former board member the late former Mayor Jim Swan, who passed away last month.

McAleenan spent a distinguished military career of 25 years in the U.S. Air Force in such places as Clark Air Base, Philippines and Rhein-Main Air Base, West Germany as well as several stateside assignments in Texas, Mississippi, Ohio, Illinois and Alaska.

Following his military career, he worked with the federal government in Alaska and was a contractor for Martin Marietta as a senior engineer to the Federal Aviation Administration. He was the Information Technology Director at the Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility (AWWU) for the city of Anchorage, Alaska, for 14 years in the roles of both IT and Customer Service directors. After relocating to Florida, he was selected to be the first Customer Service Director at Toho.

He graduated from Wayland Baptist University in Anchorage with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and business administration. Since moving to Florida, McAleenan has served on several local homeowners’ association boards in Osceola County.
