UCF quarterback Darriel Mack Jr., who replaced McKenzie Milton last year after his devastating injury against USF, has been competing for the starting job as QB this coming season, but unfortunately broke his ankle in a non-football related activity and is out indefinitely, the the UCF Knights announced on Wednesday.

“There is no specific timetable for his return. He will not be available for training camp,” UCF coach Josh Heupel said in a statement. “We hope Darriel has a speedy recovery, but we are excited about the talent we have in the quarterback room to start the season.”

Mack, who is a redshirt sophomore tweeted “battle tested” after the news was released

Brandon Wimbush, from Notre Dame, will continue to battle against redshirt freshman Quadry Jones and freshman Dillon Gabriel for the UCF Knights’ starting QB spot for the 2019-2020 season.
