Rodeo cowboys and cowgirls have traveled around the world to get the chance to come to Kissimmee to compete in the 142nd Silver Spurs Rodeo. This year the Silver Spurs Rodeo celebrated its 75th Anniversary. The bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling excitement began on Friday, February 16th and came to an end on Sunday afternoon.  The 142nd Silver Spurs Rodeo saw some of the largest crowds ever because of this special anniversary. With the biggest cash payouts east of the Mississippi the Silver Spurs Rodeo brings in the best of the best.

Sunday was the day of champions with all of the top competitors in all of the different categories riding for the grand prize and the 1st place title of the 142nd Silver Spurs Rodeo. If you missed the rodeo here is a list of the events along with the winners.

Saddle Bronc Riding – The Saddle Bronc rider keeps one hand on the rein and one hand in the air. The judges look at the rider’s control of the bronc, spurring action, and if the rider is able to keep his toes pointed outward. For the bronc, the judges consider it’s bucking ability and if the ride is smooth and rhythmic. Winning 1st place, Jacobs Crawley was awarded $4,906.80.

The riders will repeat this motion for the course of the ride or, ideally, eight seconds.

Tie Down Roping – Jobe Johns and Kolt Henrderson tied for 1st place, both scoring 8.0 during the Tie Down Roping portion of the Silver Spurs Rodeo. After roping the calf, the cowboy would jump off his horse and flank the calf (picking it up and laying it on the ground). When the calf ifson the ground, the cowboy must tie any three of the calf’s legs together using a “piggin” strong. Once all of this is complete, he then throws his hand in the air signaling to the judge and the timing then stops. Both contestants received $2,526.25 for placing 1st place.
