A 27-year-old Kissimmee woman was killed Wednesday evening after being struck by a car while crossing U.S. 192 near Westside Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred around 4:43 p.m. when a 2011 Ford Fusion, driven by a 45-year-old man from Clermont, was traveling eastbound on Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in the inside lane. Troopers say the pedestrian was walking northbound across U.S. 192 outside of a marked crosswalk when the vehicle swerved in an attempt to avoid her. Despite the driver’s efforts, the car struck the woman.

The pedestrian was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased. Her next of kin has been notified. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured and remained at the scene.

FHP confirmed the crash remains under investigation. No further details have been released at this time.
