The average price of a gallon of gas nationwide has surpassed $5, with Florida jumping to $4.88 per gallon of regular unleaded. Drivers in Osceola County can currently expect to see an average price of $4.89 at the pump, according to AAA.

The national average price has jumped 19 cents in just the past week, and is up $1.93 from this time last year. A year ago, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded was $2.97.

The record-breaking gas prices have been putting pressure on consumers in recent months, who are also dealing with an inflation rate of 8.6 %.

Since last Thursday, these 10 states have seen the largest increases in their averages: Michigan (+41 cents), Delaware (+37 cents), Maryland (+36 cents), Colorado (+36 cents), Kansas (+34 cents), Indiana (+33 cents), West Virginia (+33 cents), Minnesota (+33 cents), Iowa (+32 cents) and Wisconsin (+31 cents).

The current dynamic between decreased supply and increased demand is contributing to rising prices at the pump. This along with increasing crude oil prices means that the price of gas will likely increase in the near future, according to AAA.
