A 5-year-old girl and a 62-year-old woman died in a car crash Friday afternoon in Osceola County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said 23-year-old Maria Noriega Encalada was driving her 2012 Toyota Venza southbound on Poinciana Blvd., and 62-year-old Marylou Waymack was driving her 2019 Kia Sorenta northbound on Poinciana Blvd. when for some reason Noriega Encalada crossed into the northbound lanes and crashed head-on into Waymack’s vehicle.

The victims who died were identified by authorities as 5-year-old Mariah Waymack and 62-year-old Marylou Waymack. Two other passengers in the car that was hit head-on, a four-year-old and a 9-year-old, were both rushed to local hospitals with critical and serious injuries, according to troopers. Maria Noriega Encalada, and her 26-year-old passenger were also taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Charges are pending against Maria Noriega Encalada and the investigation is ongoing, troopers said. According to FHP, alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
