A 78-year-old pedestrian from Kissimmee was struck and killed Monday afternoon on Interstate 4 in Kissimmee, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash took place around 1:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-4, near mile marker 65, in the area of West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway. According to FHP’s crash report, a man was standing outside his 2022 blue Toyota Corolla that was parked on the shoulder of the westbound lanes on I-4 with its hood raised. The man entered the westbound outside lane, stepping directly into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

According to FHP, a car struck the man and then fled the scene. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further information has been provided about the suspected vehicle or the driver that fled the crash.
