Shortly after 11 a.m. this morning, officers from the Kissimmee Police Department responded to a distress call at the intersection of N. John Young Parkway and Bermuda Lakes Lane regarding a man threatening to jump from the pedestrian overpass onto the traffic below.
Upon arriving at the scene, Kissimmee Police Department officers immediately began speaking with the distressed man, trying to calm him and prevent him from jumping. KPD then deployed their Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), that was able to successfully convince the man to step down from the ledge, averting the potential tragedy.
The man was then transported to a hospital by the Kissimmee Fire Department for further evaluation and treatment.
During the incident, all lanes of John Young Parkway were temporarily closed to ensure public safety.
