A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper was hospitalized with minor injuries Friday evening after a multi-vehicle crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Orlando.

The incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. near mile marker 250 in the northbound lanes, after the Osceola Parkway Interchange. According to FHP, a semi-truck traveling north attempted to change lanes and sideswiped a Toyota Camry. A Dodge pickup truck, traveling behind the vehicles, swerved to avoid the collision but struck both the semi and the Camry before overturning across several lanes.

The Dodge then slammed into an FHP patrol vehicle parked on the outside lane and continued to roll down an embankment, troopers said.

The trooper, who was standing outside his patrol car at the time, escaped serious harm. Officials said he briefly fell during the crash but avoided the brunt of the impact, sustaining only minor injuries. The driver of the Dodge also suffered minor injuries, while the drivers of the semi and Camry were not hurt and stayed on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
