St. Cloud, FL – A new era of advanced healthcare is about to begin in St. Cloud, as Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital prepares to open a 20,000-square-foot expansion featuring a brand-new 10-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and two cutting-edge cardiac catheterization labs.
More than a construction project, the expansion reflects the hospital’s deep-rooted commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality care to the community it serves. According to hospital leadership, the project embodies Orlando Health’s guiding belief in making healthcare personal—not just in words, but in practice.
“At Orlando Health, We Make It Personal is more than something we say—it’s how we care for every patient, every day,” said Brian Wetzel, President of Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital. “This expansion is a powerful demonstration of the investment we’ve made in this community since returning to St. Cloud in 2020. We’re proud to expand our capabilities and offer this beautiful new space to the people of St. Cloud and Osceola County.”
The expansion includes a modern, spacious ICU on the second floor, replacing the existing unit with improved capacity, enhanced monitoring systems, and advanced critical care tools for the hospital’s most vulnerable patients. On the first floor, Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital’s two new cardiac catheterization suites are equipped with state-of-the-art imaging technology, allowing clinicians to diagnose and treat blocked arteries with speed and precision.
Until now, patients experiencing severe heart attacks in the St. Cloud area were often transported to hospitals in Orlando—losing precious time when every second matters.
STEMI Certification to Transform Emergency Cardiac Response
In the coming months, Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital is expected to earn STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction) certification, which will officially authorize St. Cloud Fire Rescue and Osceola County Fire Rescue to transport patients experiencing a heart attack directly to the hospital for life-saving treatment.
This national certification is based on strict criteria for hospital readiness and fast intervention. It’s a critical step that ensures patients can receive advanced cardiac care faster—dramatically improving outcomes in time-sensitive emergencies.
“When a patient arrives with a major heart attack, the clock is already ticking,” said Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Prakrut Patel. “Now we’ll be able to provide definitive care right here in St. Cloud—without the delay of transferring them elsewhere.”
Since rejoining the St. Cloud community in 2020, Orlando Health has focused on expanding services, upgrading facilities, and reinforcing its presence as a trusted healthcare provider in Osceola County. This latest expansion represents the most significant investment to date—and one that puts patients and families first.
With the official opening just days away and STEMI certification expected soon after, Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital is not only growing—but redefining what it means to care for the community.
Positively Osceola will continue to follow this important story and provide updates as the hospital prepares to welcome its first patients into this advanced new space.
