Visitors to Wild Florida Adventure Park’s Gator Park in Kenansville can discover these energetic animals while exploring the park’s collection of native and exotic wildlife.
Native to parts of South and Southeast Asia, Asian small-clawed otters get their name from their unusually small claws. Unlike many other otter species, their paws are highly dexterous, helping them search for and handle food.
Those paws are useful when dinner is on the menu. In the wild, Asian small-clawed otters feed on animals including crustaceans, mollusks, fish and other small aquatic prey.
But one of the most interesting things about these otters isn’t their size — it’s their social life.
Asian small-clawed otters are highly social and communicate using a variety of vocalizations. Family groups spend time interacting, playing and exploring together, behaviors that can make watching them almost as entertaining as learning about them.
