The body of a man believed to be that of missing 73-year-old Herman McClenton, who was last seen on Thanksgiving Day in Osceola County has been found, Osceola Sheriff Marcos Lopez announced in a news update on Thursday.

According to the sheriff,  the body was discovered by a search dog in a thick, swampy area, approximately chest deep in water, about one mile from the Kissimmee home where the 73-year-old was last seen about a week ago after visiting family for Thanksgiving. Security cameras had previously shown McClenton walking in the area, but authorities were unable to locate man, who is originally from Eustis.

“We let the family know that we are very hopeful that it is him,” Lopez shared. “We did find articles of clothing that match what he was last seen wearing a little bit further deeper into the swamp and his body was found a little bit closer toward State Road 429.”

Lopez said. “Additional personnel were still utilized, canine search teams, underwater sonar equipment as well.”

The sheriff’s office and medical examiner’s office are still working to identify the body.

Lopez said. “Additional personnel were still utilized, canine search teams, underwater sonar equipment as well.”

“I told my major, you know, let’s bring him home. And we haven’t stopped since we’ve been searching,” Lopez said.
