During Tuesday night’s City of Kissimmee Commission meeting, a proclamation was presented to the NAACP of Osceola County recognizing June 19, 2025, as Juneteenth in the City of Kissimmee. The proclamation honors freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality for African Americans in the community and across the nation.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the day—June 19, 1865—when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It is a powerful reminder of the enduring struggle for justice and equality, and a celebration of Black culture, history, and progress.

The city’s recognition of Juneteenth reflects its continued commitment to inclusivity, historical awareness, and community unity.
