The father and son who were were found guilty of second-degree murder in April for the 2019 murder of St Cloud mother Nicole Montalvo were both sentenced to life in prison.

On Wednesday morning Christopher Otero-Rivera, and his father Angel Rivera, were sentenced to life after being found guilty of second-degree murder, abuse of a dead human body, and tampering with physical evidence in the death of Nicole Montalvo, Otero-Rivera’s estranged wife.

In October 2019 Nicole Montalvo was determined to be missing after failing to pick up her 8-year-old son from school. Her dismembered remains were later located on Hixon Avenue in St. Cloud where her estranged husband Christopher Otero-Rivera and his parents lived.

Wanda Rivera, Christopher’s mother was also arrested, but State prosecutors dropped charges this March.

In April, it took less than two hours for the jury to find the father and son guilty of second-degree murder, abuse of a dead human body, and tampering with physical evidence in the death of Nicole Montalvo, Otero-Rivera’s estranged wife.

The breakdown of sentencing is as follows:
Count 1: second-degree murder— sentenced to life in prison. Count 2: guilty of abuse of a dead human body— sentenced to 15 years in DOC
Count 3: guilty of tampering with physical evidence— 5 years in DOC
