A tragic accident early Saturday morning in Osceola County near Poinciana claimed the life of a Kissimmee man after an SUV, traveling in the wrong direction, collided with a Lynx bus, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred around 2:15 a.m. on South Poinciana Boulevard, just north of Yorkshire Lane, when a 2018 Hyundai Tucson SUV, driven by a 30-year-old woman from Poinciana, was heading south in the northbound lane. A Lynx small transport bus was traveling northbound at the time.

In an attempt to avoid the oncoming SUV, the bus driver, a 35-year-old man from Kissimmee, swerved to the right. Despite his efforts, the SUV’s front left and side struck the bus, causing it to overturn off the road onto its right side, according to the FHP crash report.

All four individuals involved in the crash were transported to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital. The bus driver and a 27-year-old male passenger from Kissimmee sustained minor injuries. The driver of the SUV suffered serious injuries. Unfortunately, a 33-year-old Kissimmee man on the bus was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital. He was the only one not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, troopers said.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash.
