KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A 68-year-old Osceola County woman has been arrested after investigators said she intentionally gave her two adult sons medication in an attempt to cause fatal overdoses, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded shortly after 10 a.m. Sept. 8 to a home on Indian Ridge Trail South in Kissimmee following a reported overdose. Upon arrival, deputies found Marilyn Elise Therrell and her two sons, ages 30 and 32, exhibiting signs of a drug overdose.

Therrell and her sons, both of whom authorities described as severely autistic, were transported to AdventHealth Celebration for treatment.

Detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding the three overdoses and collected evidence from the residence. Investigators also interviewed a family member who lives outside the area and the property’s landlord.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, statements attributed to Therrell indicated that she had intentionally provided medication to herself and her sons in an effort to cause fatal overdoses.

Detectives interviewed Therrell again on Sept. 17. Authorities said she admitted that caring for her sons had become increasingly difficult following her husband’s death last year and that she intentionally overdosed them in an attempt to kill them.

Therrell was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail on two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated abuse of a disabled adult.

The allegations remain subject to prosecution in court, and Therrell is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Los agentes respondieron el 8 de septiembre a una residencia en Indian Ridge Trail South, donde encontraron a Marilyn Elise Therrell y a sus hijos, de 30 y 32 años, con señales de sobredosis. Los tres fueron trasladados a un hospital para recibir tratamiento.

Las autoridades indicaron que ambos hijos tienen autismo severo. Durante una entrevista el 17 de septiembre, Therrell presuntamente admitió que les suministró los medicamentos con la intención de matarlos. También señaló que cuidarlos se había vuelto más difícil desde la muerte de su esposo el año pasado.

Therrell fue ingresada en la Cárcel del Condado de Osceola y enfrenta dos cargos de intento de asesinato en primer grado y dos cargos de abuso agravado contra un adulto con discapacidad.

Therrell se presume inocente mientras no sea declarada culpable.
