KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The City of Kissimmee has secured a $10 million federal grant to fund the construction of a new air traffic control tower at Kissimmee Gateway Airport, a major infrastructure investment city officials say will enhance aviation safety and support the airport’s continued growth.
The funding was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Contract Tower Program for Fiscal Year 2026 and is being administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant was officially awarded on May 18.
The project will replace the airport’s current control tower with a modern facility designed to improve operational efficiency, increase visibility for air traffic controllers, and provide upgraded technology and working conditions.
City officials said the new tower will help meet the growing demands of one of Central Florida’s busiest general aviation airports while supporting future economic development opportunities.
“This is an important step forward not only for the airport, but for the future of aviation and economic development in Kissimmee,” said Aviation Director Shaun Germolus. “We are very grateful for the federal partnership and support that helped make this investment possible.”
The City of Kissimmee also credited U.S. Representative Darren Soto for his support during the federal funding process and efforts to help secure the grant.
According to city officials, the new tower is expected to feature updated technology, enhanced operational capabilities, and a modern design reflecting the airport’s growing role in Central Florida’s aviation industry.
Kissimmee Gateway Airport serves as a hub for business aviation, flight training, tourism-related aviation activity, and other aviation services. The tower project is part of the city’s broader strategy to continue investing in the airport as a key driver of regional economic growth.
Additional details regarding the tower’s design, construction schedule, and project timeline are expected to be released as planning progresses.
Located in the heart of Central Florida, Kissimmee Gateway Airport plays a significant role in the region’s transportation network, supporting thousands of aircraft operations each year while serving businesses, visitors, and aviation professionals throughout the area.
