Despite a strong pitching performance by Taylor Barrett rally to tie the game, Harmony couldn’t overcome
Lake Nona in a fun game to watch Thursday.
The Lions’ Kiley McQuillan led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a walk-off home run for a 3-2 win.
The Longhorns (2-2) will try to get back on track at Timber Creek on Tuesday.
Barrett struck out 15 batters and had a hit in the top of the seventh inning that kept a tying rally alive.
Harmony took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a dramatic run. Ireland Sibbett reached on an infield single,
stole second, went to third on Sami Habarat’s well-placed bunt, then executed a delayed steal of home
perfectly. She faked a return to third then bolted home and slid safe underneath the throw from third and a
tag.
“We had to get that run in,” Coach Kristi Mindrup said of the aggressive baserunning.
Lake Nona (4-0) scratched out runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 2-1 lead. Undaunted against Lions
pitcher Karen Vazquez, who struck out 11 and allowed just three hits herself, Habarat singled up the middle,
and Barrett rapped a single that sent Habarat to third; Barrett moved to second on the throw. Lucy Burgess
followed with an RBI groundout that tied the score, forcing extra innings.
