If you still can’t score a ride time for Rise of the Resistance inside Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, you can get a debut ride on another new attraction.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, tucked inside the facade of the iconic Grauman Chinese Theatre, officially opened Wednesday. It replaces the Great Movie Ride, the last remaining attraction that debuted with the park on May 1, 1989. The new ride’s neon marquee pays homage to the movie theme.
Runaway Railway immerses riders within a “Mickey Mouse” cartoon short on a train ride through Runnamuck Park. Mickey and Minnie chug along in Mickey’s red car, driving alongside a train on the way to a picnic. Lo and behold, the train engineer is Goofy! In a moment of Disney magic, riders step into the movie on Goofy’s train and set off on a wacky, wild ride, because when you’re with Goofy, “What could possibly go wrong?”
From there, the immersion continues among dazzling visual effects, a lovable theme song, and surprising twists and turns — the unexpected always happens when Mickey, Minnie and Goofy are involved, along with many of their friends.
Just like Rise of the Resistance in Galaxy’s Edge, the Runaway Railway uses a trackless guidance system. It’s run time is listed at four minutes and 50 seconds and, oddly enough, it’s the first attraction based on Mickey at any Disney park.
If you have a keen eye, check for hidden Mickeys — the Runaway Railway features more of them than any existing ride, multiple outlets have shared.
