A Miss Florida Service weekend has been canceled due to the rise of COVID-19 cases across Florida.

Set to begin June 27, 2020, Executive Director Keith Williams decided to postpone the event for the safety of the titleholders when Michaela McLean, Miss Florida 2019-2020, tested positive for the virus.

McLean said she started to feel super fatigued two weeks ago along with having shortness of breath and a lack of taste and smell. For everyone’s safety with her duties of traveling and appearing across the state she decided to take the test and it came back positive.

As someone who tested positive for COVID-19 and experienced three weeks of various symptoms, my hope is that we all do our part and take the virus more seriously. We must prioritize our own health, as well as the health and safety of those around us,” she said to former Miss Osceola and Positively Osceola’s very own Digital Journalist, Cassidy Goldman.

McLean is feeling much better now and is almost recovered. She reminded everyone to continue to practice social distancing and to wear a mask in public to help in decreasing the spread of the virus.

More than 114,000 people in the state of Florida have tested positive for coronavirus with more cases everyday.

“I hope all of you all can stay safe and healthy,” said McLean.
