ST. CLOUD, Fla. — Residents of St. Cloud and surrounding communities now have faster access to advanced, life-saving cardiac care as Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital has launched a new STEMI (ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction) program, providing around-the-clock emergency treatment for patients experiencing the most severe type of heart attack.
The new program features a dedicated cardiac care team and a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The initiative is designed to significantly reduce the time between a patient’s arrival at the hospital and the restoration of blood flow to the heart — a critical factor in improving survival and reducing long-term heart damage.
According to the hospital, the goal is to diagnose patients and begin treatment within 90 minutes of arrival at the emergency department, in line with recommendations from the American Heart Association.
“Every minute counts when someone is having a major heart attack — the sooner our team can open that blocked artery, the better the chance of saving heart muscle and reducing permanent damage,” said Prakrut Patel, an interventional cardiologist with Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute – St. Cloud.
Patel said the new STEMI program allows patients to receive advanced cardiac care closer to home rather than being transported to another facility, saving valuable time during one of the most critical medical emergencies.
“Through this STEMI program, our patients can receive the advanced cardiac care they need much closer to home, without losing valuable time during emergency transport outside St. Cloud,” Patel said. “It also enables a patient’s loved ones to remain close by, which supports their recovery. We are proud to offer this exceptional level of compassionate, specialized care to the community we are grateful to serve.”
The launch represents another expansion of specialized healthcare services at Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital, giving residents of southern Osceola County quicker access to advanced cardiovascular treatment without leaving the community.
Heart disease remains one of the leading health concerns in Florida and across the nation. Hospital officials noted that approximately 350,000 people die from cardiac arrest in Florida each year, underscoring the importance of rapid diagnosis and treatment for cardiac emergencies.
The new STEMI program strengthens Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital’s ability to respond immediately to life-threatening heart attacks, providing patients with the specialized expertise and technology needed when every minute matters.
Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital Lanza Programa STEMI para Brindar Atención Más Rápida a Pacientes con Ataques Cardíacos
ST. CLOUD, Florida.
