The sizzling pace of travel at Orlando International Airport (MCO) continues to keep pace with Central Florida’s summer temperatures. July passenger traffic hit a record high of 4.2 million as MCO welcomed an average of 4,000 additional travelers per day as compared to the same period last year. International and domestic traffic combined to show a 3 percent increase over last July.

“We are on track to have a record breaking summer at Orlando International Airport. Our passenger growth is reflective of the value placed on this community by our travelers,” says Phil Brown, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “At our current pace we should surpass 47 million annual passengers by the end of summer.”

The 3 percent increase in traffic nearly matched the scheduled increase in seats of 3.2 percent for the month. The increase in scheduled seat capacity was approximately 146,000 seats, with half of MCO’s airlines increasing their number of seats flown compared to July 2017.

The largest increases were:

• Spirit – up 114,000 seats
• Delta – up 33,000
• Southwest – up 29,000 seats
• United – up 15,000 seats
• Norwegian – up 11 , 000 seats

The month of July also featured LATAM Airlines beginning new service to Fortaleza, Brazil and the return of seasonal service to Mexico City on Volaris; Santiago, Chile on LATAM; London/Stansted on Thomas Cook; and Kingston, Jamaica on Caribbean Airlines.

July 2018 Statistical Data:
• Domestic passenger traffic increased 2.87 percent with 3,614,875 total passengers
• International passenger traffic climbed 3.85 percent with a total of 612,246 total passengers
• Combined traffic was up 3 percent with 4,227,113 total passengers for the month
• On a rolling 12-month basis, MCO traffic is up 6.45 percent to 46,251,285 passengers
• On average there are 13,211 more passengers per day as compared to this same time last year
