OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — The wait for Friday night lights is almost over as high school football returns to Osceola County, bringing another season of championship aspirations, district title races, and community pride. Nine local programs will take the field this fall, including the debut of the county’s newest varsity football team, as fans prepare to pack stadiums in and around Osceola County.

The 2026 season officially begins Friday, Aug. 14, with Kickoff Classic exhibition games that will give teams one final tune-up before the regular season. Osceola hosts Daytona Beach Mainland, St. Cloud travels to East Ridge, and Gateway welcomes University. Other preseason contests feature Innovation at Tohopekaliga, River Ridge at Celebration, Cypress Creek at Liberty, Pine Ridge at Nova Lakes, Palm Bay at Poinciana, and Harmony at Freedom.

The regular season opens Friday, Aug. 21, highlighted by one of the county’s premier matchups as Osceola travels to neighboring St. Cloud. Other opening-week games include Tohopekaliga at Astronaut, Poinciana at Celebration, Liberty at Harmony, and Palm Bay at Nova Lakes, while Gateway begins the season with a bye week.

As the season progresses, district games will determine playoff positioning and postseason opportunities. Osceola faces a challenging district schedule that includes Lakeland, Lake Gibson, Auburndale, Sebring, and Bartow. St. Cloud’s district slate features Lake Nona, Gateway, Tohopekaliga, and Harmony, while Gateway, Tohopekaliga, Celebration, Liberty, Harmony, and Poinciana will each battle through competitive district schedules in pursuit of FHSAA playoff berths.

One of the season’s biggest storylines will be the debut of Nova Lakes High School’s varsity football program. The county’s newest school will take the field for its inaugural season, opening its campaign with games against Palm Bay, Liberty, Gateway, Oak Ridge, University, Innovation, and several other Central Florida opponents.

Several key county matchups will headline the schedule throughout the season, with games that could play a major role in district races and playoff positioning. Among the most anticipated are Osceola at Poinciana on Aug. 28, Gateway at Harmony and Tohopekaliga at Celebration on Sept. 11, St. Cloud at Gateway on Oct. 2, St. Cloud at Tohopekaliga and Harmony at Celebration on Oct. 16, before the regular season concludes with the annual St. Cloud-Harmony rivalry on Oct. 23.

The regular season wraps up Oct. 30 with Celebration visiting Gateway, Liberty traveling to Poinciana, Harmony taking on Sebastian River, Lake Howell visiting St. Cloud, Tohopekaliga traveling to Ridge Community, and University playing at Nova Lakes. Osceola will conclude the regular season with a bye week before turning its attention to the FHSAA state playoffs.

With nearly every game kicking off at 7 p.m., communities throughout Osceola County will once again gather under the lights to cheer on their hometown teams.
