On Saturday and Sunday, October 26th and 27th, at 5695 Jack Brack Rd in St. Cloud, Sheriff Marcos R. Lopez and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will host “Saddle Up for Smiles” – a heartwarming two-day equine therapy event designed specifically for children on the autism spectrum. This extraordinary program aims to bring joy and therapeutic support to these children, providing them with a unique opportunity to experience the profound benefits of horse therapy in a nurturing environment.
Equine therapy, also known as Equine-Assisted Activities and Therapy (EAAT), has been shown in numerous studies to offer significant benefits to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Research demonstrates that equine therapy can improve behavioral skills, social functioning, and even communication abilities in children with ASD. A study published in 2023 found that equine therapy had a beneficial effect on both behavioral skills and social communication in children with autism.
“Saddle Up for Smiles” is designed to bring these benefits to local children in Osceola County through direct engagement with horses in a supportive and joyful environment. The sessions will run from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM both days, with lunch provided for participants. Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so early registration is encouraged. Families are encouraged to dress their children in comfortable clothing, such as jeans and sneakers.
To register, visit OsceolaSheriff.org and complete the registration form. For more information, you can contact OCSOPAL@OsceolaSheriff.org or call 407-785-0272.
This event, part of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing efforts to support and serve the community, demonstrates how equine therapy can enhance the lives of children with autism in meaningful and lasting ways.
