With hurricane season quickly approaching, Osceola County is urging residents to be ready by attending the 2025 Before the Storm: Hurricane Preparation for the Whole Family event on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kissimmee Civic Center.

The event is free to attend and offers families an opportunity to learn how to prepare for the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which officially begins on June 1 and runs through November 30.

Hosted in partnership with the City of Kissimmee, City of St. Cloud, Osceola County Emergency Management, and other local agencies, the event will feature:

  • Free admission

  • Emergency preparedness tips and resources

  • Touch-a-truck experience for kids

  • Hands-on activities

  • County and city partner booths offering vital information

The event is designed to equip residents with the tools, resources, and knowledge needed to prepare for storms before they strike. Emergency management staff and experts will be available to provide advice on creating a disaster kit, forming a family emergency plan, and understanding evacuation zones.

The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season was above average, featuring 20 named storms, 10 hurricanes, and 5 major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher). Several storms impacted parts of Florida and the southeastern United States, including Hurricane Milton, which brought heavy rainfall and wind to Central Florida in late September.

The season served as a strong reminder of the importance of preparation, early planning, and community readiness.

Whether you’re a seasoned Floridian or new to the region, “Before the Storm” is a vital opportunity to learn, connect, and get storm-ready in a family-friendly environment.
