The 500 available slots for Osceola County’s COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance and Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention program were taken up in 15 minutes.

That’s the bad news. The good news is there will be more in a couple weeks, County Commission Chair Viviana Janer said at Monday’s Board of County Commissioners meeting.

With more funding arriving from state and federal funds, another round of 500 applications will be taken on June 1. The state’s moratorium on evictions and foreclosures is currently set to end on June 2.

Janer also reported that further Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds would be coming in 45 days, when yet another round of housing assistance would be available in late June or early July.

“There will be a need for this for a while,” Janer said at Monday’s meeting.
