About 10,500 people have been tested for coronavirus in Osceola County.

But, its population is around 375,000. So 2.75 percent, or about 1 in 36 people have been tested.

Those are all numbers that concerned County Commission Chair Viviana Janer enough to bring up at Monday’s County Commission meeting, with Gov. Ron DeSantis allowing fitness centers, libraries and museums to open this week and restaurants and retail locations to have a higher percentage of capacity in indoor spaces.

The number of tests is the lowest among Central Florida counties, and the percentage of positive tests (6 percent) is the highest, despite a 1 percent rate on a data surge of 1157 tests last weekend.

Janer has implored that testing expands. With that said, here are were COVID-19 tests will be available this week in and adjacent to Osceola County:

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 – 9 a.m at the Walmart Supercenter: (3250 Vineland Rd, Kissimmee). Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Robert Guevara Community Center in Buenaventura Lakes: (501 Florida Parkway). In addition, those on the north side of Kissimmee or Buenaventura Lakes are adjacent to an Orange County testing site at Cypress Creek High School on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tests are by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call 407-723-5004. No symptoms required to be tested.
