Osceola deputies said they recovered the body of a woman from a retention pond in Kissimmee Wednesday night that is possibly the same person that was reported missing in the same area on Tuesday by her family.

Deputies said they responded to Springlake Village in Kissimmee to recover the drowning victim, a woman between 60-70 years old.

Sheriff Marcos Lopez said that it looks to be a case involving cognitive dysfunction, like Alzheimer’s or dementia.

“We believe she had some type of condition, but she wasn’t exactly diagnosed, it was probably the starting stage,” Lopez said.

According to Sheriff Lopez, they were called from witnesses on Tuesday saying they saw a person going into a retention pond. He said one person tried to get the woman out of the water, but was unsuccessful.

According to the sheriff, they brought a boat and sonar equipment. He said the water is about 30 feet deep in some areas, with submerged trees and concrete. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office dive team, which specializes in night dives, was also called to help.
