The legacy of former educator and coach Henry Ramsey will live on at Osceola High School with the naming of the school’s football field as “Coach Henry Ramsey Football Field.”  A dedication ceremony will take place at half-time during the Kowboys’ home football game on October 26, 2018.

Coach Ramsey, who passed away in 2005, served in the Army during WWII and attended the University of Florida on a football scholarship before moving to Osceola High School in 1954, where he would stay and teach for over three decades.  After retiring from Osceola High, Coach Ramsey went on to be a pillar of the community.  Coach Ramsey worked with the Silver Spurs Club, and had the honor of being named the Silver Spurs Rodeo’s Coca-Cola Cowboy of the Year in 1999, an award honoring his lifetime of service.

“It is not that often in life that you get to meet people who have personas that are bigger than life,” said Osceola County School Board Member Clarence Thacker.  “Coach Ramsey was one of these people.  He was the definition of a true gentleman.  His warmth extended to everyone around him, be it students or adults.  Everyone knew they were safe in his presence.  He was always a teacher, be it in the halls, in the classroom, or on the fields and courts.  Few have positively impacted as many lives in Osceola County as Coach Henry Ramsey did.  I am blessed to have been his neighbor, his student in the classroom and on the football field, and, most importantly, his friend.”
