KENANSVILLE, Fla. — There’s a tiny new resident at Wild Florida Adventure Park, and this one is especially rare.
Wild Florida welcomed a baby albino alligator to its Gator Park in August 2024, marking the third successful hatching through the attraction’s albino alligator breeding program.
The rare hatchling arrived following a carefully monitored 60-day incubation period overseen by Wild Florida’s Croc Squad, which kept the eggs in a climate-controlled room with access limited to members of the animal care team.
Wild Florida says it is the only attraction in the world with a successful albino alligator breeding program, making the latest arrival another important milestone for the Kenansville attraction.
“With the hard work and dedication of our Croc Squad, we worked together to produce one perfect healthy albino alligator hatchling this season,” said Andrew Ayala of Wild Florida’s Croc Squad. “We are most proud of the parents, Snowflake and Blizzard, who continue to beat the odds and be a one-of-a-kind experience for guests.”
Snowflake and Blizzard, the hatchling’s parents, had been at Wild Florida for seven years at the time of the birth. The pair previously produced albino alligator hatchlings in the summer of 2022.
Albino alligators lack the normal pigmentation that gives American alligators their familiar dark coloring. Their unusual appearance makes them particularly vulnerable in the wild, where their lack of natural camouflage and sensitivity to sunlight make survival to adulthood extremely difficult.
That rarity makes Wild Florida’s breeding program and the successful hatching particularly noteworthy.
Throughout the incubation process, the eggs remained inside an incubator under the Croc Squad’s close supervision. Following the successful hatch, the newest member of Wild Florida’s alligator family was given approximately a month to mature before making its public debut at the Gator Park.
Meanwhile, visitors could see proud parents Snowflake and Blizzard at their exhibit Monday through Saturday. Wild Florida also offers an Albino Gator Encounter, providing guests with an opportunity to learn more about the animals and experience some of the training and behaviors used by their caretakers.
Located along Lake Cypress in Kenansville, Wild Florida Adventure Park offers its Gator Park along with airboat tours, animal encounters and a Drive-thru Safari Park, connecting visitors with native Florida wildlife as well as exotic species from around the world.
With the arrival of another rare albino hatchling, Wild Florida’s growing gator family continues to offer visitors an opportunity to see one of nature’s most unusual versions of Florida’s most iconic reptile.
