Across the United States, women make up over 40% of school board members. That’s more than twice the average female representation in other governing entities. Locally, women have a majority on our county commission, and strong representation in both the City of St. Cloud’s Council and the City of Kissimmee’s Commission.

In the current election cycle in the School District of Osceola County there are 3 seats up for election, with six women running to fill them. It’s the first time  that six women have been running for school board seats during the same election cycle.

Running for Seat 1 are Jennifer Arguello and Terry Castillo. Mindy Brewster and Heather Kahoun are running for Seat 4, while Erika Booth and Debbie Mann are running for District 5. We should note that Will Fonseca is also running for District 4, and James Nickles is running for District 1. We will be sharing their candidate articles as well. Positively Osceola has asked each of the women candidates to share about themselves, why they’re running, their goals, and questions about their positions on certain current issues that affect our district, our schools, and our students.
