A 37-year-old motorcyclist from St. Cloud, identified as Kevin Loring, tragically lost his life in a collision on Sunday evening in Polk County.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and Charles Street in Frostproof.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Loring was traveling southbound on U.S. 27 when a 48-year-old woman from Frostproof, driving a van, attempted to turn onto the highway.
The van entered Loring’s path, leading to a collision that ejected him from his motorcycle. Despite wearing a helmet, Loring succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the van remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
Authorities urge motorists to exercise caution at intersections and remain vigilant for motorcyclists to prevent such tragedies. This incident adds to the growing concern over motorcycle safety in Central Florida, highlighting the need for increased awareness and adherence to traffic laws by all road users.
