State Attorney Andrew Bain has released an annual report highlighting his office’s significant achievements over the past year since taking office. Bain, who was appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis after the governor removed Monique Worrell from office, emphasized the office’s commitment to protecting the community from harm and engaging the public in crime prevention and intervention efforts.

The report showcases several key accomplishments:

  • Thirty-one homicide cases went to trial with a 93% conviction rate, resulting in 18 life sentences.
  • Twenty sex crimes cases were prosecuted with an 80% conviction rate, including eight life sentences.
  • The newly established Violent Crimes Unit, comprising five assistant state attorneys dedicated to prosecuting violent, gang, and gun crimes, achieved an 85% conviction rate across seven trials.
  • The office has successfully restaffed with experienced prosecutors, filling 99% of its 163 full-time positions.
  • Prosecutor starting salaries were increased from $63,000 to $68,000 to attract high-quality candidates.
  • The office has also strengthened collaboration with local partners on prevention programs and improved working relationships with law enforcement.
